The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart has taken a playful jab at the recent cancellation of The Bachelorette‘s latest season. The joke comes as ABC scrapped the show just days before its premiere amid controversy surrounding its star.
The Bachelorette’s last minute cancellation gets a quip from Jon Stewart
In the latest episode of The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart poked fun at the recent cancellation of The Bachelorette Season 22.
The comedian opened his monologue, saying, “I hope you had a pleasant weekend and got some rest because the dizzying, chaotic carnival ride that is Donald Trump‘s America continues to careen down s–tshow hill. It’s f—ing madness out there: TSA lines longer than your actual trip; escalating threats in the Middle East; planes driving into trucks.”
He then joked, “The only thing giving me joy is looking forward to this season of The Bachelorette.” Referring to the season’s star, Taylor Frankie Paul, who also featured in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Stewart continued, “I mean, they’ve got a strong Mormon woman. She seems lovely. I hope that she finds love.”
Moments later, Stewart jokingly pretended to be distraught after learning about the show’s cancellation. He said, “Hold on a second, I’m getting a call. Nooo!”
This comes shortly after ABC canceled the 22nd season of The Bachelorette just days before its scheduled premiere on March 22. The decision came after the allegations of domestic violence involving Taylor Frankie Paul resurfaced. Paul was arrested in February 2023 after her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, reported that she was assaulting him.
Furthermore, TMZ published a video of the incident on March 19, 2026, prompting ABC to cancel Paul’s season on The Bachelorette. “In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of The Bachelorette at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family,” ABC announced in a statement (via The Guardian).
