Grammy Winner Becomes Oscars’ Biggest Loser Ever With 2026 Defeat

Diane Warren, a popular Grammy Award winner, has set another unexpected record at the 2026 Oscars. With her latest loss in the Best Original Song category, Warren has now set a new record for the most nominations without a competitive win. Despite the loss, she responded with humor to the milestone.

Diane Warren records longest Oscars losing streak with 2026 defeat

Diane Warren has set an unwanted record at the Academy Awards after her latest nomination in the Best Original Song category did not result in a win. With her 17th consecutive loss, the veteran songwriter now holds the distinction of being the most-nominated individual in Oscars history without securing a victory.

Warren was nominated this year for ‘Dear Me,’ a track performed by Kesha for the documentary Diane Warren: Relentless. However, the award ultimately went to ‘Golden’ from KPop Demon Hunters, written by Ejae, Ido, and Teddy Park. Their win also marked a historic milestone, as they became the first South Korean artists to win the category.

Warren first received a nomination in 1987 for ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now’ from Mannequin. She has since earned recognition for a range of widely known songs. These include ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing’ by Aerosmith, and ’Til It Happens to You’ by Lady Gaga. She has also received multiple consecutive nominations in the same category in recent years. However, with the recent result, Warren surpasses Greg P. Russell, who previously held the record with 16 nominations without a victory.

Despite the outcome, Warren responded with a lighthearted message following the ceremony. She wrote on social media, “Well at least I’m consistent!  And I set a new record tonite!! But U know me, I will be back if you’ll have me!!!”

Although she has yet to win a competitive Oscar, Warren was recognized with an honorary Academy Award in 2022 for her contributions to film music.
