Actor Terrence Howard recently claimed that he once had a “chance” to date global pop icon Beyoncé, but instead decided to date another member of her band. He also claimed the singer chose to dance with him at the 2005 BET Awards to make a point of what he had “lost.” After the clip went viral, the internet responded in disbelief.
Terrence Howard claims he passed on the ‘chance to date’ Beyoncé
During his latest appearance on Patrick Bet-David’s podcast, Terrence Howard claimed that he passed on the opportunity to date Beyoncé. The topic came up when the Empire star said he dated a few women in the business but never “slept” with them.
Surprised by his statement, David asked the actor if he ever fantasized about being a Hollywood couple like Beyoncé and Jay-Z. That’s when Howard said, “I had a chance to date Beyoncé. You know, early on. We had a conversation, and I ended up talking to the other girl in [Destiny’s Child band]—the girl with the blue eyes. I remember Beyoncé looking over at me.”
The Iron Man actor continued, “I think that’s why she picked me to do that dance when she did the kind of striptease dance at the BET to show me what I had lost. But there was a moment in which I felt something with [Beyoncé], but that was long before she was with Jay-Z, very, very long ago.”
Howard referred to the “Single Ladies” singer’s 2005 BET Awards performance, when she was still part of the iconic girl band, Destiny’s Child. During the event, the band, consisting of Beyoncé, Kelly, and Michelle, performed their hit “Cater 2 U.” Halfway through, they invited Howard, Nelly, and Magic Johnson for a playful lap dance.
Internet reacts to Terrence Howard’s Beyoncé claims
After the podcast aired, the Hustle & Flow actor’s statement went viral. However, online users are not buying his claims. One fan wrote, “How do you get a chance to date somebody you never asked out on a date? It makes no sense. He’s unemployed now and on a loser tour.”
A second fan joked, “Plot twist of the century… imagine the alternate Destiny’s Child timeline!”
Users on TikTok had a similar reaction. A user wrote, “Yeah, Beyoncé wants me too, she kept looking into my eyes at her concerts.” Meanwhile, another commented, “Why does this feel like a lie. lol”
