Heated Rivalry stars Hudson Williams and François Arnaud call out fake fans
Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu shared firm messages on Instagram aimed at viewers leaving hateful remarks about members of the cast. Both actors posted nearly identical statements, clarifying that people spreading abuse online should not label themselves as fans of the show.
The pair directly called out discriminatory and hostile comments circulating on social media. Their message rejected posts that attack others with racism, homophobia, misogyny, or similar behavior. According to the actors, that kind of conduct has no place in the fan community. They said anyone posting bigoted or harassing remarks cannot claim to support the series. The actors also stressed that the cast does not want or need attention that comes packaged as hateful love (via Page Six).”
Hudson Williams and François Arnaud also made it clear that the cast stands united. “We all respect and support and love each other and are on the same side,” the message said, adding a blunt line for those fueling negativity: “If you can’t accept that gtfoh.”
The online backlash seems connected to storylines from the HBO drama Heated Rivalry. In the series, Williams plays rising hockey talent Shane Hollander, while Arnaud portrays veteran player Scott Hunter. The plot follows a secret romance between Shane and another character, Ilya Rozanov, played by Connor Storrie.
Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova, who plays Svetlana in Heated Rivalry, also stepped in to address the online drama. She shared a post urging fans to recognize and support women working in the industry. Kharlamova pointed out that women seen at premieres or events are there because they earned their spot, not because a male co-star brought them along.
She later cleared the air in another post. Kharlamova said the message was never meant to criticize her fellow cast members. Instead, she encouraged fans to back the entire team and keep the focus on supporting the show and everyone involved.
