Nancy Guthrie Abductor Could Have Returned to Crime Scene — Expert

In the latest updates for Nancy Guthrie’s potential kidnapping case, an expert explains why the abductor could return to the crime scene. As the case continues in Tucson, people are focusing on the growing tribute outside Guthrie’s home — the memorial that has become a public show of support for the 84-year-old and her daughter, Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie. Even so, a law enforcement expert claims it could also attract the person responsible for Guthrie’s disappearance.

Expert claims uncommon case of Nancy Guthrie’s abductor returning to crime scene

Betsy Brantner Smith, a spokesperson for the National Police Association and a retired police sergeant, gave updates to Fox News about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance case, anticipating the abductor’s return to the crime scene. Moreover, Smith claimed that even investigators could still be watching the area without making it obvious.

She explained, “They could [have eyes on the memorial], we’re just not seeing it,” adding, “They could be keeping track of it, but we’re not seeing the cameras.”

A spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department told the outlet, “Detectives are reviewing all viable leads in this case. We do not speak to specifics, as this is still an ongoing investigation.” Meanwhile, authorities have not publicly identified a suspect, vehicle, or any persons of interest.

Smith claimed that a suspect could return to the scene, stating, “Potentially, that is the type of person that could come back to the memorial, look at the memorial, even take photos of the memorial and add to the memorial themselves.”

She added, “Sometimes the offender will come back to the scene of the crime,” and suggested they might even leave “their own note, their own flowers.” Smith said she believes suspects can feel pride in getting away with it, “Coming back can also be a way to bring back that rush that they had when they originally committed the crime.”

Fox News also reported that Savannah, her sister Annie, and brother-in-law Tommaso Cioni visited the tribute and placed flowers there in a somber stop at the site.
