The first set photos from Martin Scorsese’s next directorial venture have surfaced. They showcase the film’s two leads, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, who look quite different compared to their usual appearances, indicating a significant transformation for their respective roles. Production on the film reportedly commenced last week in the Czech Republic.

Czech Republic outlet Blesk recently shared some photos of Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence from What Happens at Night’s set in Kolín. In the pictures, the former wears a black puffer jacket, a white shirt, a belt, black pants, and black shoes. He also sports spectacles and a thick mustache.
Meanwhile, Lawrence wears a light brown coat layered over a beige turtleneck top and a black skirt. She also wears a hat in one of the photos, but took it off, as shown in another.

What Happens at Night follows Martin Scorsese’s previous directorial effort, Killers of the Flower Moon. It also marks the filmmaker’s seventh collaboration with DiCaprio, who starred in that film and prior movies: Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, and The Wolf of Wall Street. However, it is Lawrence’s first time collaborating with the veteran filmmaker. Further, the film marks a reunion between DiCaprio and Lawrence, who collaborated on Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up.
Based on Peter Cameron’s novel of the same name, the film’s story revolves around a married couple who travel to a small snowy European town to adopt a baby. Upon arrival, they check into a cavernous yet largely deserted hotel. However, things quickly take a turn when they come across a host of colorful characters, including a flamboyant chanteuse, a depraved businessman, and a charismatic faith healer. Soon, the couple realizes they are in a very strange place and find themselves locked in a struggle to adopt their baby, during which it becomes apparent that they don’t know all that much about one another despite building a life together.
Scorsese directed the film from Patrick Marber’s screenplay. He and DiCaprio also produced the film via their production banners, Sikelia Productions and Appian Way Productions. In addition to DiCaprio and Lawrence, the film features Mads Mikkelsen, Jared Harris, and Patricia Clarkson.
