Jeffrey Epstein’s ex-girlfriend is speaking publicly about their relationship and the troubling conclusions she says she has reached years later. Patricia Schmidt recently discussed her experience in a television interview, alleging Epstein often asked her to meet his friends and clients during their time together. Looking back, she believes those situations may have been intended to benefit Epstein’s relationships with powerful men.
Jeffrey Epstein’s ex-girlfriend reveals he ‘traded’ her to men in explosive interview
Speaking to “60 Minutes Australia,” Patricia Schmidt revisited her brief relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. She claims it lasted roughly a year between 1987 and 1988. At the time, Schmidt was working as an office assistant at the investment bank Bear Stearns when she first encountered him.
According to her, the meeting happened when her supervisor asked her to deliver documents to Epstein. “I was sent over there because my boss had asked me to deliver some papers to him,” she told journalist Tara Brown. Reflecting on the moment years later, Schmidt suggested that the meeting may have been arranged as a “favor” to Epstein.
Schmidt said she quickly became captivated by him. In the interview, she recalled being struck by his presence and personality. “He seemed to be kind of the center of the universe. He was so confident and he was so attractive and he was so incredibly smart,” she said.
Years later, however, Schmidt says her understanding of the relationship has shifted. She kept a diary during that period. Portions of the same were later published by The New York Times with her consent. Looking back at those entries, she now believes some interactions may have been attempts by Epstein to leverage her socially.
Schmidt recalled that Epstein frequently asked her to meet his friends or business associates. “He would ask me to meet clients, friends of his, go to lunch or go to dinner,” she said. When asked if she believed Epstein may have been attempting to present her to other men in a sexual context, using her as “currency,” Schmidt said she now thinks that may have been his intention.
“I have to think absolutely yes,” she said. “I wasn’t interested in any of these men, but I think it was very much his intent to make that trade.”
