Ex-Prince Andrew Was Advised Against Becoming a ‘Pet Royal’ — Expert

Ex-Prince Andrew’s years as a United Kingdom trade envoy are being revisited amid new allegations from a royal expert about private family tensions. Ingrid Seward claims Prince Philip warned his son about the risks of associating too closely with billionaires.

The assertions arrive as lawmakers push for greater transparency over Andrew’s official duties and expenses. While many of the claims remain disputed or unproven, they have reignited discussion about his controversial tenure.

Ex-Prince Andrew’s late father warned him about being a ‘pet royal’ to billionaires, says expert

According to royal author and expert Ingrid Seward, the late Prince Philip reportedly privately warned ex-Prince Andrew about what she described as “seedy billionaires” looking for a “pet royal” to elevate their own status.

Speaking to The Sun, Seward alleged that Philip “saw straight through his son.” She claimed that he would admonish him, saying, “I warned you about seedy billionaires looking for a pet royal to elevate their own status.”

The claims surface as Andrew’s tenure as Special Representative for International Trade and Investment faces renewed examination. He served in the role from 2001 until 2011, reportedly undertaking dozens of overseas trips aimed at promoting British business interests.

Reports have alleged that the role cost the public millions of pounds over the years, including flights and accommodation. At the same time, critics have questioned whether the trips delivered measurable economic benefits. However, no formal findings have been publicly detailed.

Additional allegations have surfaced in recent weeks. Some former officials have claimed Andrew submitted questionable expense requests, including for private massages. UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves has called for any misused public funds to be repaid if wrongdoing is established. Meanwhile, MPs are reportedly seeking the release of documents tied to his envoy work.

Most recently, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was later released after 11 hours in custody, and investigations are said to be ongoing.
