On March 2, event organizers confirmed that Taylor Swift will release a special seven-inch single of “Elizabeth Taylor,” a popular track from her 2025 album “The Life of a Showgirl.” She will launch the limited-edition vinyl only for this year’s event, giving collectors something special to look for on April 18.
Taylor Swift unveils ‘Elizabeth Taylor’ exclusive vinyl release for Record Store Day
Taylor Swift’s single lifts “Elizabeth Taylor” away from the full-length album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” and gives it its own spotlight. Pressed on a galactic swirl of purple and blue vinyl, the disc leans fully into the song’s glamorous spirit. Record Store Day teased the release on Instagram with a sepia-toned image sleeve image and the cheeky caption: “Record Store Day just got… So Glamorous.”
The physical release carries the official name Cry My Eyes Violet Glitter, a nod to one of the song’s most memorable lines. Swift originally dropped “Elizabeth Taylor” on October 3 alongside the rest of the tracks of “The Life of a Showgirl,” which quickly dominated the Billboard 200 and held the No. 1 position for 12 weeks.
The album produced multiple chart-toppers. “The Fate of Ophelia” and “Opalite” both climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while “Elizabeth Taylor” opened strong at No. 3. The track draws inspiration from the life and mystique of Elizabeth Taylor, the violet-eyed icon whose career included classics like “Cleopatra” and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” Swift has long admired the actor, and in the song she traces parallels between Taylor’s headline-making life and her own experiences in the spotlight.
Swift has built a reputation as one of Record Store Day’s most reliable heavy-hitters. The annual event champions independent record shops through exclusive and limited vinyl drops. In 2025, her “Fortnight” single with Post Malone ranked among the event’s biggest sellers. A few years earlier, she sent “Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions” back onto the Billboard charts after issuing it as a Record Store Day vinyl exclusive in 2023.
