With its sweeping romance and star power, Wuthering Heights is set to make a major impact at the box office this Valentine’s weekend. Early projections suggest a strong global debut as audiences prepare to revisit the timeless tale on the big screen.
Wuthering Heights opening box office prediction revealed
Warner Bros. projects that Wuthering Heights, directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie, will earn between $70 million and $80 million globally in its opening weekend.
The film will debut in 3,600 North American locations, targeting a domestic four-day Presidents Day weekend haul of $40 million to $50 million, and an additional $30 million from 11,600 screens across 79 international territories (via Deadline).
The global rollout covers 18,000 screens across major markets, including the UK, France, Korea, Germany, Italy, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, and Spain. Premium formats like Imax, Dolby Cinema, drive-ins, dine-ins, and other large-format theaters will boost revenue through ticket upcharges. The release aligns with Jacob Elordi’s Oscar nomination for Netflix’s Frankenstein. It also marks the first wide studio release from Promising Young Woman director Emerald Fennell.
In U.S. tracking, the film performs strongest with women over 25. Females under 25 follow closely in both unaided awareness and first-choice categories. These figures match benchmarks such as Fifty Shades Darker ($46.6M) and It Ends With Us ($50M). Wuthering Heights has a 71% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. U.S. previews begin at 3 p.m. Thursday for the R-rated adaptation of Emily Brontë’s novel.
Warner Bros. acquired the MRC production for $80 million. It outbid Netflix, which offered $150 million. Overseas comparisons point to The Housemaid, which debuted with $34.8 million and went on to gross over $350 million worldwide. Last weekend, early UK previews for Wuthering Heights brought in $1.8 million.
The production team filmed in the Yorkshire Dales. The story offers a romantic retelling of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff’s relationship.
