Marvel’s The Punisher Gets Title for Disney+ — Report

The highly-anticipated The Punisher special on Disney+ has reportedly been titled, according to a new rumor. While an exact release date hasn’t been revealed, it is expected to drop sometime this year. Notably, this television special will mark the third MCU project featuring Jon Bernthal’s gun-toting vigilante. He previously appeared in Daredevil: Born Again, Season 1, and is expected to show up in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The Punisher special on Disney+ possibly gets a title

The Punisher Disney+ special is reportedly titled Punisher: One Shot Special.

According to familiar scooper MyTimetoShineHello’s latest X (formerly Twitter) post, the special will arrive in the summer of 2026. However, Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed the special presentation’s title or release date window.

The special marks the second time Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, AKA The Punisher, will serve as the main protagonist. He previously headlined Netflix’s Daredevil spin-off, The Punisher, which ran for two seasons between 2017 and 2019.

Reinaldo Marcus Green directed the special, which will be part of the MCU’s Phase Six. He also co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Bernthal.

In addition to Bernthal, the special will star Jason R. Moore, who will reprise his role of Curtis Hoyle from The Punisher, thus marking the character’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hoyle played a major role in the original series as the leader of a therapy group as well as a trusted friend and confidant of Frank Castle.

Plot details for the Disney+ special are being kept under wraps. However, Ma Gnucci will reportedly serve as a primary antagonist in the special.

Notably, Jon Bernthal revealed in an interview with Screenrant that the special will arrive around the same time as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where Punisher has a substantial role. In the same interview, he also teased what fans can expect from it, saying it would be “as high-octane Punisher as you’ve ever seen.”

Additionally, Bernthal shared the unique connection between his roles in the special and Brand New Day. The Walking Dead actor stated, “I think what was really important to me and to Destin [Daniel Cretton] and to Tom [Holland] is that we believed that The Punisher could walk off of the Spider-Man set and could walk onto the special set, and I do believe that we achieved that.”
