‘I Am Beside Myself’: Frankenstein’s Jacob Elordi on Oscar Nod

Jacob Elordi recently shared his take on his first Oscar nomination for his work in Frankenstein. The 28-year-old actor says the recognition feels like a strong boost early in his career, “wind in the sails,” as he put it.

Jacob Elordi told The Hollywood Reporter that he was sound asleep when the Oscar nominations were announced. He had dozed off reading a book, and it was his mother’s excited phone call that woke him. She quickly rallied his team on a group FaceTime, turning a quiet moment into a joyful celebration. “I am beside myself,” Elordi said, clearly thrilled by the news. “I am so excited, I mean, I’m 28 years old. It’s wind in the sails.”

Elordi’s nomination comes for his transformative portrayal of The Creature in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, a role he describes as deeply personal and the kind of performance he has dreamed about since he was young. He said the character allowed him to express parts of himself he’s wanted to explore for years. “It’s every bit of the dream that I’ve had since I was 12,” Elordi explained.

Frankenstein scored a huge win at the Oscars with nine nominations, putting the spotlight on both the performances and the craft behind the film. Elordi said the nods meant a lot to him, not just personally but for everyone who poured their skill into the movie, from the camera work and costumes to the adapted script. He called the recognition “incredibly confirming” and said it felt great to see “handmade” cinema get this kind of love.

As for the actors he’s competing against, Elordi was clearly in awe. He name-dropped legends like Sean Penn, Stellan Skarsgård, and Benicio Del Toro. He admitted it still feels “surreal” be mentioned in the same breath as people he’s admired for years.
