Taylor Swift Felt ‘Bad’ Over ‘Shift’ in Blake Lively Friendship, Texts Reveal

Taylor Swift and Blake Lively‘s texts are trending again after newly unsealed court messages were released online. Lively texted Swift, “I felt like a bad friend lately because was such a sad sack who only talked about my own s–t for months.”

The Swift-Lively messages show the singer and her longtime friend addressing a “shift” in how they were talking. The conversation is tied to Blake Lively’s legal battle with Justin Baldoni over “It Ends With Us.” The messages, dated December 4, 2024, were filed in court.

Taylor Swift said she felt ‘awful’ about ‘shift’ in Blake Lively friendship

According to Page Six’s January 21, 2026, report, the texts were unsealed on Tuesday. This friendship exchange between Taylor Swift and Blake Lively surfaced ahead of a summary judgment hearing. First, the “Gossip Girl” alum checked in and asked if anything was wrong. Blake texts, “Hey, just checking in. I have no reason to ask, but I donno, l’ve been feeling like I should… is everything ok?” She also told Swift she wanted “the opportunity to be a better friend.” Afterwards, Swift replied and admitted she felt a change too. The Grammy winner replied, “No you’re not wrong, but it’s also not a big deal.”

However, she said she was “exhausted in every avenue” and felt “a little bit of a shift.” She compared the tone to a work blast. Swift said, “It’s felt like I was reading a mass corporate email sent to 200 employees.” Still, the “Eras Tour” performer said she missed her friend’s usual voice. “I just kinda miss my funny, dark, normal-speaking friend,” she wrote. Meanwhile, the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni fight stayed in the background. Blake replied, “Yes there has been a lot of the Justin stuff but I’ve been through things like this before.”

Later, Lively joked with a “Dear Valued Customer” reply. Then she got serious about being careful online, stating, “I’ve internalized that everything digital may be public.” Separately, the report said Swift insulted Baldoni in the thread. For now, the texts sit inside a bigger case. Lively sued Baldoni in December 2024. His $400 million countersuit was dismissed in June 2025. The dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni remains ongoing.
