David Beckham has publicly addressed the controversy surrounding his son Brooklyn’s recent Instagram posts for the first time. Speaking about social media, parenting, and accountability, the former football star offered a response a day after Brooklyn accused his parents of serious wrongdoing.
David Beckham opens up after Brooklyn’s shocking post
David Beckham discussed the impact of social media on mental health shortly after Brooklyn Beckham shared emotional stories criticizing his parents. “I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media. For the good and for the bad,” David said on CNBC’S Squawk Box. He went on to warn about the risks associated with online platforms, particularly for younger users. “The bad we’ve talked about with what kids can access these days, it can be dangerous,” he continued.
At the same time, David emphasized the positive uses of social media, citing his own advocacy work. “I’ve been able to use my platform and my following for UNICEF. And it has been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children.”
Addressing his role as a parent, David spoke about raising his four children, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper, whom he shares with his wife, Victoria Beckham. Without naming Brooklyn directly, he reflected on mistakes and learning. “And I have tried to do the same, I’ve tried to do the same with my children, to educate them,” David said. “They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids. You sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well.”
Brooklyn’s statements accused David and Victoria of attempting to sabotage his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, alleging manipulation, dishonesty, and prioritizing publicity and endorsements over family. In his Instagram Stories, Brooklyn wrote, “I have been silent for years and have made every attempt to keep these matters private,” adding, “I do not want to reconcile with my family.”
