Billy Bob Thornton, who plays Tommy Norris, set the record straight on the ongoing rumors about his departure from Landman. Dismissing the reports, Thornton described them as “AI,” adding that they hold no truth.
Billy Bob Thornton talks about Landman exit
In a conversation with USA Today, Thornton addressed the ongoing rumors about his exit from Landman, deeming them to be untrue. He called the latest reports “AI-generated crap.” Moreover, he mentioned that two reports are circulating about him, one about his Landman departure and the other about a potential romance with Moore, both of which are untrue. He added, “There’s an AI report that Demi and I are a couple now, and there’s one that I’m leaving the show. They have nothing to do with reality.” He also revealed that he’ll be there when the shooting starts for Season 3.
Previously, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Thornton teased that he would be up for portraying Tommy for another five or six seasons, if it happens. He said, “Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. I’m at the age now where if it goes five or six seasons, I may have to take Sam [Elliott]’s role, and then we’ll have the great-grandfather. (Laughs.) Next thing you see, Jacob [Lofland, who plays son Cooper] will be pushing me in the wheelchair out of the nursing home.”
Landman Season 2 concluded on January 18, 2026. Fans need not worry, as the series has been renewed for Season 3 by Paramount+. At the time of writing, a release date hasn’t been announced. However, based on its predecessor’s release pattern, the season could be expected by late 2026 or 2027. Thornton described it as “season three may be a combo of seasons one and two. Where maybe the danger will come back, but those relationships will still be at the forefront. And that’s just a guess.”
