First Lady Melania Trump is currently facing criticism on the internet for her recent appearance at an event centered around the use of AI in the country. The technical irregularities that occurred during Trump’s speech, combined with her on-camera demeanor, have led many to conclude that the entire video was AI.
While some netizens have singled out Donald Trump’s wife for the supposedly unnatural vibe of the video, others have come to her defense, praising Melania and the Trump administration for their efforts to regulate artificial intelligence.
Melania Trump called out after her AI speech
On January 16, during the Zoom Ahead: AI for Tomorrow’s Leaders, Donald Trump’s wife, Melania Trump, chimed in to read a pre-taped speech about artificial intelligence and how children should navigate the technology, given its growing influence.
Zoom’s CEO and Founder, Eric Yuan, commenced the proceedings by introducing the First Lady. In his introduction, Yuan also mentioned Melania’s self-titled documentary by saying, “She even has an upcoming film release on January 30, which is not AI-generated” via AOL.com).
However, the live stream of Melania’s speech started with an audio error, causing viewers to miss out on the start of her address. This, along with how Trump’s image appeared during the live stream, led many to believe that the entire video was made using AI.
In accordance, one user noted, “This is 100% an AI hallucination,” in the comment section of Forbes’ live YouTube feed. Another mocked Melania’s message regarding AI by writing, “This is like telling people to use GPS but still trust their gut.” A third user echoed such sentiments by saying, “Plot twist: This video was made by AI.”
In her speech, Melania Trump urged citizens to “take action,” adding, “Use AI to unlock new parts of your imagination. Lead with your ideas. Stay sharp.” Nevertheless, she also asked viewers to use caution while using AI, stating, “Never surrender your thinking to AI. Be intellectually honest with yourself. Use AI as a tool, but do not let it replace your personal intelligence.”
