President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club recently hosted the American Humane Society’s 15th Annual Hero Dog Awards Gala, and the photos from the event, which featured dancers wearing creepy dog masks, have gone viral since. Stephen Colbert, a vocal critic of the President, hit back at this in his latest segment, mocking Trump for organizing this event.
Stephen Colbert mocks Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago gala
Late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert recently roasted Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club-hosted event, the American Humane Society’s 15th Annual Hero Dog Awards Gala. Photos from the event went viral earlier after dancers were spotted wearing 18th-century formal wear with dog masks over their heads.
Colbert said on his show, “There is one place folks are still having fun. That’s Mar-a-Lago.”
“So, a big fancy party to celebrate hero dogs,” the host continued, “I’m sure you’re thinking there’s going to be cute doggy decorations, maybe a poodle-shaped cake, sexualized human dog hybrids in ball gowns.” The host went on to play footage of the party at the event. “Huh. I don’t remember smoking peyote in a PetSmart today,” Colbert added.
He further analyzed the aristocratic costumes worn by the ones at the party, and added, “I mean, look at those fancy Rococo dresses. Reminds me of that famous Marie Antoinette quote: ‘Let them eat cake, but not chocolate.'”
Colbert subsequently brought up the cognitive tests Donald Trump often brags about consistently acing. Saying that the President was late to the party, Colbert said, “That’s got to be confusing for somebody who already has such a tenuous grasp on reality.”
He continued in Trump’s voice. “I’m here, everyone. What did I…holy s—. What is happening here? I got to say, wow, they really upped the challenge on these cognitive tests….Dog, dog, dog, dog, giraffe. D— it, dog.”
Moreover, there have been many others who have spoken out about this event.
