DreamWorks Working on Beloved Animated Comedy Sequel

The Bad Guys franchise may be gearing up for another sequel, as a new report claims a third film is currently in development. Following the success of the first two movies, the animated series appears set to continue. Moreover, recent developments have further fueled anticipation about The Bad Guys 3.

The Bad Guys 3 rumored to be in works

Speculation around a third Bad Guys film is growing after a prominent Hollywood scooper suggested that Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation are developing The Bad Guys 3.

The claim was shared by industry scooper MyTimeToShineHello on X (formerly Twitter). It read, “The Bad Guys 3 is in the works at Universal/Dreamworks.” However, as of now, the studios have not issued an official confirmation.

Though the news of a third part is unconfirmed, developments in The Bad Guys 2 strongly hinted that the story will continue. The sequel’s post-credits sequence lays clear groundwork for another chapter.

Professor Marmalade (Richard Ayoade), believed to have met his end during the film’s climax, is revealed to be alive after his gold limousine is pulled into space by advanced technology. The vehicle then transforms into a spacecraft. It accelerates away at light speed, with Marmalade stating that he is “going home.” This moment confirms his alien origins.

This plot turn is similar to Aaron Blabey’s The Bad Guys book series. In the book, Marmalade is revealed to be an exiled alien prince. He later returns with an alien force and threatens global domination. The revelation hints at a potential shift in tone for a third film, expanding the franchise into science-fiction territory.

Furthermore, Pierre Perifel, who co-directed The Bad Guys 2 with JP Sans, previously addressed discussions around a third film with Variety. He emphasized that continuation of the series ultimately depends on audience response. Perifel added, “We have tons of ideas because this world is such a fantastic toolbox, and we’ve laid out thoughts on what a third could be.”
