Timothée Chalamet revealed that a background actor threatened him on the set of Marty Supreme. The 30-year-old actor shared this interesting bit of information during a Q&A with Robert Downey Jr. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles. Notably, Chalamet played tennis star Marty Mauser in this sports-comedy film, co-written, produced, and directed by Josh Safdie.
Timothée Chalamet recalls getting threatened by background actor on Marty Supreme set
Timothée Chalamet confessed that a background actor threatened him on the Marty Supreme set. Chalamet began narrating, “I won’t say who, but in that motel sequence, there are a lot of non-actors…that I find it really thrilling to work with, but sometimes it would take multiple takes to really get something out of them” (via PEOPLE).
Continuing further, the Golden Globe winner revealed how he’s trying his best to get the back actor riled up. He said, “And I’m really getting in the guy’s face, and I’m really trying to get him angry with me. I was saying to Josh [Safdie, the movie’s director], he’s not getting angry with me, he’s not getting angry with me.”
However, Chalamet was in for a surprise when the background actor privately warned the 30-year-old not to mess with him. The Marty Supreme star said, “I did another take, and then the guy said, ‘I was just in jail for 30 years. You really don’t want to f*** with me. You don’t want to see me angry.’”
Chalamet remarked nervously, “I said to Josh, holy s**t, who do you have me opposite, man?” Interestingly, this isn’t the only anecdote related to the recent Christmas movie. Director Josh Safdie admitted that actor Robert Pattinson has made a secret, voice-only cameo in the film.
While speaking at London’s BFI Southbank, Safdie admitted, “No one knows this, but that voice, the commentator, the umpire is Pattinson.” Safie referred to the Batman actor’s surprise cameo as a subtle “easter egg” in the movie (via Complex).
Notably, Chalamet is already winning big at the 2026 awards. He’s already bagged the Golden Globe and Critics Choice for Best Actor. Fans on the internet are hopeful that the 30-year-old will bag the coveted Oscar trophy as well.
