Hwang Dong-hyuk’s next Netflix series unveiled
Hwang Dong-hyuk, creator of Squid Game, is producing a new Netflix Korean crime drama titled The Dealer. Dong-hyuk’s company, Firstman Studio, produces The Dealer, with Choi Young-hwan directing the series in his directorial debut. The cast features Jung So-min, Ryoo Seung-bum, Lee Soo-hyuk, and Ryu Kyung-soo.
The Dealer follows Geonhwa, a brilliant casino dealer whose life changes when a housing scam destroys her wedding plans. According to the logline, Geonhwa, who has long avoided the vices of the casino world, must reenter it and use her hidden powers to survive and reach the altar. Her journey pulls her into a dangerous underworld where every move could cost her freedom, love, or even her life.
Jung So-min takes on the role of Geonhwa, revealing a new side of herself as a seasoned dealer. Ryoo Seung-bum plays Hwang Chisu, a gambler who lives hand to mouth until he joins Geonhwa’s high-stakes plan. Lee Soo-hyuk plays Jo Jun, a sharp casino player with an unreadable poker face, while Ryu Kyung-soo plays Choi Wooseung, a detective and Geonhwa’s fiancé.
Choi Young-hwan, known for his cinematography on Smugglers, Veteran, Tazza: The High Rollers, and The Thieves, directs The Dealer with a focus on dynamic visual storytelling to capture the tension, glamour, unpredictability, and emotional stakes of the casino underworld.
Ohnooy and Lee Tae-young wrote the script. Netflix presents the series and Firstman Studio produces it. Hwang Dong-hyuk joins as producer and assembles a veteran creative team. Netflix confirmed the series is in production and will premiere it exclusively on the platform.
