Y: Marshals: CBS Quietly Changes Title of Yellowstone Spin-off

A CBS representative has responded to a quiet shift surrounding the upcoming Yellowstone spin-off featuring Luke Grimes ahead of its debut. They acknowledged a title adjustment that subtly repositions how the series will be introduced to viewers.

Y: Marshals now has a shorter title

CBS has renamed the upcoming Yellowstone spin-off from Y: Marshals to Marshals.

A CBS spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter that “Y: Marshals” was always a “working title” and the finalized title is now simply Marshals. However, all press communications through November 2025 still used “Y: Marshals” without the “working title” designation. The CBS rep added that the “Y” was “always considered silent” internally and that the show’s logo will still feature the letter.

The title change comes ahead of the show’s March 1, 2026 premiere on CBS. The series follows Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes), who leaves behind the Yellowstone Ranch to join a unit of U.S. Marshals in Montana. The official CBS logline states: “With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Kayce Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana.”

The show also stars Gil Birmingham, Mo Brings Plenty, and Brecken Merrill, reprising their Yellowstone roles. Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, and Logan Marshall-Green join the cast as new members. Brett Cullen takes on a recurring role as Harry Gifford, the head of the Montana Marshals unit. The current cast list does not include Kelsey Asbille, who portrayed Monica Dutton.

Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios produce Marshals. Taylor Sheridan holds credit as co-creator and executive producer, though he plans to leave Paramount for NBCUniversal. His film deal moves over soon, while his television contract remains in effect for nearly two more years. Paramount denies any connection between the title change and Sheridan’s departure.

CBS will air episodes of Marshals, and Paramount+ will stream them afterward. The production allocated a $52 million budget and filmed in Summit County, Utah.
