Chris Redd has finally broken his silence on his romance with Kenan Thompson’s ex-wife, Christina Evangeline. In a heartfelt Instagram video posted on Tuesday, Redd clarified that the decision was a tough one to make. Captioned “What have you sacrificed for love?,” the clip saw the Saturday Night Live star making a New Year’s resolution to be more vulnerable this year.
Redd began the topic, saying, “I wanted to address something that’s kind of just, I guess, been around for a long time, about four, five years now, but, you know, I’ve never addressed it. I know a lot of people talk about me dating Kenan Thompson’s ex-wife, and how that came to be. And I’m gonna just tell it to you straight.”
Addressing the backlash their relationship received, the Scare Me actor revealed that “there wasn’t a plan.” Redd further explained how he’s “not the type of person to scheme on a person” or pursue his friends’ exes.
In the video, Chris Redd came clean about his “pill problems” and the dark times that followed. The Candy Lane actor shared how his coworkers gossiped about it without extending a helping hand, except for Christina Evangeline. She was the only one to call Redd out on his addiction and support him on his therapy journey.
“In that time, we fell in love,” Redd continued, “and I felt bad from the start. It’s always felt like an emotional double-edged sword for me, because I really love everything me and Kenan did, bro. I really appreciated every piece of work we put together, I think that we were a great team, and I hate doing something to somebody that I know would hurt them.”
Saturday Night Live veteran Kenan Thompson filed for divorce from Evangeline in June 2022 after more than a decade of marriage.
