Sydney Sweeney’s Box Office Hit To Get a Sequel

Sydney Sweeney is gearing up to return with the sequel to The Housemaid. The first chapter starring Amanda Seyfried and Michael Morrone became a commercial success, earning $135 million worldwide. Now, the film will be rolling out its second part, following Freida McFadden’s novel once again.

Lionsgate has confirmed Sydney Sweeney‘s The Housemaid 2. On Tuesday, the distributor announced that the sequel has been greenlit, and it will follow McFadden’s novel, The Housemaid’s Secret. For the unaware, it is the second installment in the author’s Housemaid book franchise. Filming for the next chapter is also scheduled to begin this year.

Sweeney and Morrone will return to reprise their roles as Millie and Enzo, respectively. Moreover, Paul Feig is expected to take the director’s chair once again. Feig opened up on the film’s success, stating, “It’s been thrilling to see audiences around the world fall in love with The Housemaid and the incredible work of our talented cast and crew.” He further added, “We’re lucky that Freida McFadden has already extended Millie’s journey on the page, and that we get to work with [screenwriter] Rebecca Sonnenshine and Lionsgate to bring this next story to audiences.”

Previously, Sweeney had showered praise on the source novel. The “Euphoria” star told Variety, “I was juicy, it was delicious.” She continued, “I could not put the book down. I remember I opened it, and you know when you’re like.” The 28-year-old actress also explained, “I did not move from my seat the moment I opened it until I finished. It was just so good.” “The characters, the twists, the turns, all of it, so I knew I really wanted to be a part of, ” she added.

Additionally, the leading lady hoped for a sequel, saying, “We want to be able to give the people what they want. This is such an amazing community of book lovers, and we would love to do another film.”
