The Housemaid Finally Delivers a Box Office Win for Sydney Sweeney

Sydney Sweeney’s new thriller movie, The Housemaid, has become a hit at the box office, moving past its reported budget of $35 million. Directed by Paul Feig, it was released in theaters on December 19, 2025. Apart from Sweeney, the movie features a top-notch cast including Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, and many more.

The Housemaid scores big at the box office

Sydney Sweeney’s latest movie has become her next big box office hit, following her 2023 film, Anyone But You, which grossed around $220 million.

According to a report by Variety, The Housemaid collected a total of $15.2 million during its latest weekend, taking its domestic market collection to $75.7 million. This has brought the lifetime collection of the thriller film to $133 million.

Additionally, The Housemaid managed to achieve these numbers during the holiday season, when most of the screens are occupied by big blockbusters like Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash. As per Screen Rant, the film might also cross the $80 million global mark soon.

This feat for the Euphoria actress comes after her boxing biopic, Christy, turned out to be a box office flop with just $1.9 million as its lifetime collection. Before Christy, Sweeney’s Madame Web also had a disappointing run at the box office with a lifetime gross of $100.4 million.

Amid the massive success of The Housemaid, Sydney Sweeney shared her thoughts on a sequel while talking to Variety after the release of this R-rated film. She said, “We want to be able to give the people what they want. This is such an amazing community of book lovers, and we would love to do another film.”

Recently, Amanda Seyfried also addressed talks of a sequel and told the outlet, “No one’s said anything about number two, but I guarantee there will be a number two. And I almost guarantee that I will be in some small cameo.”
