The Office Star Got Bitten by Monkey While Filming Sarah Jessica Parker Show

Melora Hardin, of The Office and Monk fame, recently revisited a wild moment early in her career when a monkey bit her while shooting the ’90s legal show Equal Justice. The bite was minor, but it definitely left its mark. Looking back, Hardin shared how she handled the unpredictable little troublemaker and kept rolling like a pro, not letting the incident slow down filming.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hardin, 60, shared a memorable on-set experience. She recalled that while working on a project with Sarah Jessica Parker, she had to handle a monkey, which ended up biting her. The bite didn’t cause bleeding but did break the skin. She quickly put on a Band-Aid and continued filming, saying she was fine and ready to go back to work.

“I had actually done something with Sarah Jessica Parker, where I also had to deal with a monkey, and the monkey bit me on that one,” Hardin said. She continued, “It didn’t make me bleed, but it definitely cut my skin. I’m fine. You know? We put a Band-Aid on it, and then we did it again.”

Hardin, who’s been in over 100 films and TV shows since she was a kid, has had her fair share of animal co-stars. She compared her monkey bite experience to working with the high-energy capuchins on shows like Friends. “Those monkeys are just so high-strung. They’re really hyper kind of animals. They’re really highly anxious,” Hardin said.

Equal Justice aired on ABC from 1990 to 1991, with Sarah Jessica Parker playing Jo Ann Harris, a fresh law school grad trying to make her mark in a tough district attorney’s office. Hardin took over a guest spot as Doris in the second season, teaming up with Jane Kaczmarek’s character on a case involving an expectant addict.  Looking back on the incident years later, Hardin still laughs about it. She said she loves animals and is comfortable around them, joking that if something like that happened today, an actress might even sue.
