‘Hope They Threw It Away’: Avatar 3 Star Recalls Letter to John Lennon

Avatar 3’s Sigourney Weaver recently shared details about her favorite The Beatles member and the special message she wrote for him during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. She revealed that she wrote a lengthy message with purple ink, put it in the envelope, and dropped it at a restaurant, where she believed he came to. Moreover, she also couldn’t recall what the message was exactly written on the note.

During a conversation on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the host asked Weaver whether she had asked any celebrity for an autograph. She mentioned that though she was way too shy to ask, she once did write a special message to Lennon.

She said, “I wrote a several-page letter on lavender stationery with purple ink. ‘Dear John.’ It was like five pages front and back. And I folded it up. I put an envelope, and I dropped it off at this restaurant that I heard he went to.” Weaver had a hard time remembering what she wrote in the letter, but hoped that the restaurant had thrown it away.

Colbert further asked Weaver about the first concert she attended by The Beatles. Weaver responded that she saw the first performance of the British rock band at the Hollywood Bowl in 1961. Colbert reconfirmed whether the year was correct, as he believed the act happened sometime in 1964. Having a hard time recalling and verifying the year, Weaver revealed that the only thing she remembers is that she was 12 when she first saw the band.

Sharing her experience at the concert, she further added, “Girls screaming all around me. You couldn’t hear [the Beatles] at all.” Colbert then showed a photo of Weaver listening to the band perform at the concert, which was also featured in the documentary The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years.
