Chiefs’ Chris Jones Hopes Travis Kelce Stays For ‘One More Year’

As Travis Kelce’s retirement speculation continues, one of his longest-tenured teammates has made his feelings clear. Following the Kansas City Chiefs’ latest loss, defensive leader Chris Jones shared an earnest message about why he hopes Kelce decides to return for another season.

Chris Jones addressed Travis Kelce’s future after the Kansas City Chiefs fell to the Denver Broncos in a late-December matchup. With reports suggesting Kelce could retire following the team’s final game on January 4, Jones responded when asked about the possibility.

“I hope not, man,” Jones said during a post-game interview. “We have just been through so much together, and Travis has been a pivotal part of this offense for so long, and he’s been like a brother… I hope this isn’t the last year. I hope he gives it one more year. Just one more,” he added.

Travis Kelce also spoke about what could be his final home game at Arrowhead Stadium, admitting the moment carried emotional weight. “You’ve got everybody in the world watching you,” Kelce said (via Associated Press). “You get to go out there with the young guys on primetime television. Young guys getting an opportunity to taste what this NFL life is like,” he continued. His fiancée, Taylor Swift, was in attendance, watching from a suite alongside his mother, Donna Kelce.

Prior to that, Kelce had discussed his uncertainty with former NFL star Tony Gonzalez. Reflecting on his 13-year career, Kelce said he has not yet reached a final decision about retirement. “You know, that’s a good question, man. I think I’m still searching for those answers. The way this one ended with a sour taste in my mouth,” Kelce said. “I feel motivated, but I got to make the right decision for me.” (via Sports on Prime)

With his contract set to expire after the 2025 NFL season, Kelce added that his focus remains on closing out the year the right way.
