Russell Brand has shared his thoughts on Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau’s relationship. The comedian was married to the pop icon from 2010 to 2012. As his ex-wife’s romance with the politician keeps making headlines, Brand brought up the topic at a recent event.
Here is all you need to know about Brand’s latest statement.
What did Russell Brand say about Katy Perry’s relationship with Justin Trudeau?
Russell Brand opened up about Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau’s relationship at a Turning Point USA event in Phoenix. He said, “Look, Katy Perry, I was married to her. I love her still, and I’m glad that her mom’s in the room to hear me say this.” Further, he mentioned the “Dark Horse” singer’s former fiancée, Orlando Bloom, from whom she split up this year. Brand stated, “But look. I was okay with Orlando Bloom, but Justin Trudeau? Come on, man!”
“Don’t put me in a category with that guy! That globalist stooge,” the 50-year-old concluded. Talking about Perry and Brand’s relationship, the two first met in mid-2009. It was when the singer shot a cameo for his film Get Him to the Greek, which was eventually removed. They began a relationship after meeting again at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009. Soon, the couple ended up getting engaged on New Year’s Eve.
On October 23, 2010, Perry and Brand tied the knot near the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan. A year later, the comedian filed for a divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, which was finalised in July 2012. Currently, Perry is going strong in her relationship with the former Canadian Prime Minister. The musician seemingly made their romance official by sharing pictures from their trip to Japan.
A week back, PEOPLE‘s source offered an insight into their relationship. It stated, “The only reason this turned into something real is because Justin has been so persistent.” “She wasn’t looking to date when they first hung out, and she certainly wasn’t looking for a boyfriend.” The source added that the romance came as an “exciting surprise” to Perry and Trudeau was consistent with his efforts.
