Martha Stewart says Jalen Brunson broke her toe
Martha Stewart, the renowned founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday. During her appearance, she revealed that she injured herself when Knicks guard Jalen Brunson fell on her foot.
This incident happened when Stewart was attending an NBA playoff contest between the hometown New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers on May 21, 2025. She revealed, “Never, ever wear open-toed shoes to a game like that when you’re sitting on the floor.” Stewart added, “He stepped on my big toe on this foot.” She also noted that she was wearing a pair of Manolo Blahnik Patopia Slingback Sandals.
“That’s why I’m wearing open-toed shoes, because it’s the only kind of shoes I can wear,” she added.
Martha Stewart went on to open up about the painful experience she had that day after her collision with the athlete. “I knew it was broken immediately – and he sat on my lap, comes crashing down.” She added about Brunson, “I grabbed his arm and his arm was like icy cold, and I thought, ‘He’s a basketball player, he should be sweaty’ – he was cool as a cucumber.”
However, Stewart clarified that she bore no grudge towards the 2× NBA All-Star winner. She also reassured Brunson that all was well after this exchange. “I said, ‘It’s OK,’ that’s all I said – and he didn’t know he broke my foot, but he broke my foot,” she recalled.
The Knicks also ended up losing the game after leading by 14 points.
Martha Stewart revealed that she faced difficulties trying to get up and asked for assistance from Brunson’s parents. Ultimately, Jalen Brunson tried to make up by giving her a memento. “All I got out of it was a signed basketball for my grandchild,” she concluded.
