Leonardo DiCaprio tells Jennifer Lawrence how to prepare for Martin Scorsese collaboration

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence previously worked together on Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up. The pair is slated to work together again in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming adaptation of the ghost novel What Happens at Night.

Lawrence recently starred in Die My Love. The project had Scorsese on board as an executive producer, but the Hunger Games star has not worked under his direction yet. Leonardo DiCaprio, meanwhile, has collaborated with Scorsese on six feature films. He has also worked with him on one short film, making them one of the most successful director-actor relationships in modern cinema.

Drawing from his experience of working with the auteur, DiCaprio shared some advice with Jennifer Lawrence during their recent sit-down on Variety’s Actors on Actors show.

“Is there anything I should absolutely know about Martin Scorsese before we start?” Lawrence asked DiCaprio during the interview. DiCaprio responded, “It’s a great thing, and he’s going to give you a lot of film references.”

Lawrence asked, “Oh. Do I have to watch all of them?” To this, DiCaprio responded with a piece of advice, “They usually come in the form of a DVD. And if you don’t have a DVD player, get one.” The actress replied, “Oh my God. I’m going to kill myself.”

DiCaprio elaborated, “But he’ll have screenings sometimes for just one sequence in a movie. If there’s something that he wants you to capture from an old film or the pacing of something, you might have a screening of a whole film just for a specific scene that he wants to see. We might see some Japanese ghost films for reference, just to get the tone of it. You’re going to have an amazing time.”

More details about this upcoming Martin Scorsese film should arrive soon.
