Jennifer Lawrence on What Adderall Mix-up on Set Did to Her

Jennifer Lawrence is no stranger to sharing candid, self-deprecating stories about life on set, and her latest revelation is no exception. During a recent sit-down with Leonardo DiCaprio, the Oscar winner opened up about a medication mix-up involving Adderall that left her wide awake, overwhelmed, and struggling through a demanding filming day.

Jennifer Lawrence says she went sleepless all night after Adderall mix-up on set

While speaking with Leonardo DiCaprio for Variety and CNN’s Actors on Actors, Lawrence recalled an incident she says happened while she was filming “Red Sparrow.” According to the actress, she accidentally took Adderall instead of a sleeping pill before a shoot day.

Lawrence explained that sleep is crucial for her while working, especially during emotionally or physically demanding roles. After realizing the mix-up, she said she “didn’t sleep at all” that night and spiraled into panic. She described taking repeated “hot showers” in an attempt to calm herself down, adding that functioning without rest is especially difficult for her.

The next day, Lawrence said she still had to perform complex dialogue, including delivering the phrase “Senate Armed Services Committee” in a Russian accent. She recalled the challenge as particularly miserable given her exhausted state.

The actress also shared another story involving a different medication mishap years earlier while filming “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.” She claimed she once took Ambien by mistake in the morning, thinking it was something else, shortly before shooting a dance scene with Philip Seymour Hoffman. According to Lawrence, the mix-up left her feeling disoriented and “hallucinating” during filming.

She joked that her repeated questions on set frustrated co-star Elizabeth Banks, who, she speculated, may not have known what was causing Lawrence’s confusion at the time. DiCaprio reacted by joking that these kinds of moments are “key screwups” actors never forget.

Despite the chaotic memories, Lawrence remains closely tied to “The Hunger Games” franchise. She gave the first on-screen portrayal of Katniss Everdeen and has previously said she would be open to reprising the character if the right opportunity came along. Reports have since suggested she may appear in the upcoming prequel “Sunrise on the Reaping,” though details remain under wraps.
