J Balvin Reflects on Moving Past His Rivalry With Bad Bunny

J Balvin says he has moved on from the rivalry talk with Bad Bunny. In a recent interview, he shared that his priorities have shifted toward peace, balance, and building a lasting body of work. That change comes after years of high-profile collaborations and media attention. It shows how his view of success has evolved after his career has grown.

J Balvin is ‘happy’ for Bad Bunny

J Balvin told streamer Ibai that he is no longer focused on being “No. 1.” He said, “Now I’m not focused on being No. 1. I mean, now I’m happy with what’s happening with Benito, for example, with Bad Bunny.”

He added that his priorities have shifted away from competition and toward calm and legacy. Balvin expressed, “My struggle is no longer to be number one, my struggle is to have peace, to have tranquility, and to continue making moves that help me leave a legacy.”

He added, “I can celebrate it, and I can see it from a perspective that if I had seen it from the perspective of J Balvin from, I don’t know, six or five years ago? I would be banging my head against the walls. Now [I’m thinking] from a perspective of celebrating the success of my colleagues.”

That change in his feelings follows a period when J Balvin and Bad Bunny worked closely. The two released a collaborative album, Oasis, in 2019 and have shared hits and public moments since 2017.

Still, Balvin has been open about how their relationship has grown. In an April 2025 interview with El Pachá on El Vacilón de la Mañana, Balvin said, “I think that everyone reaches a point where you have to focus on yourself,” and made clear there was no ill will. He said, “Truthfully, I have nothing against Benito, one hundred percent.”

Balvin also noted that he missed Bad Bunny at his recent Medellín show. However, he expressed confidence that they will cross paths again. He said he expects they will appear together “in a very genuine way” at some point.

The comments come as Bad Bunny prepares for high-profile events. He will headline the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show in February and lead as a top contender at the upcoming Grammy Awards. Balvin pointed to those major moments as things he can celebrate for a colleague rather than see as threats to his own status.
