Jason Kelce calls out the NFL Halftime dog act
Jason Kelce criticizes the NFL Halftime dog act. In the latest episode of his New Heights podcast, he shared, “If I have to see another dog catching a f****** frisbee, I’m gonna blow my brains out. Where is the creativity? If there was one of them, it’d be really cool. Or if the dog jumped over like a flaming bridge, I’d be all in.” Continuing further, Jason stated, “But it’s just… it’s not that exciting to me. I can go to any park and watch some d***head play catch with a frisbee and his dog.”
In the end, the 38-year-old ex-NFL star stated, “I just want to get back to exciting halftime shows. It doesn’t have to be dangerous. I mean, yeah, dangerous is inherently exciting, but there are other ways to make it exciting.” The Eagle alum’s comments come at a time when many fans are raising concerns about the quality of NFL halftime shows and fan engagement.
For those unversed, teams hire stunt dog groups to perform tricks and showcase their unique talent to entertain the crowd during the game. Some popular acts are The Canine Stars, Frisbee Rob, and Sailor the Touchdown, which boast massive popularity among avid NFL fans.
Interestingly, these acts have set the record for long-distance catches, earning rave reviews on social media and television coverage as well (via Marca). A dog named Eurie achieved a remarkable record for the longest frisbee catch, a toss of 83 yards, during a game in the Alliance of American Football league in 2019 (via Fox News).
Elsewhere in the episode, Jason and brother Travis, had a heart-to-heart about the Chiefs’ heartbreaking loss against the Chargers on Sunday Night Football, Patrick Mahomes’ health, and whether Travis will continue playing in the NFL or not.
