Bianca Censori has finally spoken up about how she handles “backlash” in an interview. However, instead of answering the queries herself, she addressed them through her masked spokesperson, turning it into a one-of-a-kind interview for the people. Censori, the second wife of rapper Kanye West, has always sparked a lot of discussion on the Internet for her dressing style. She has also grabbed attention recently for her debut performance in BIO POP in South Korea.
Bianca Censori’s masked spokesperson says she views social media ‘neutrally’
Bianca Censori marked her debut in performance art last week with BIO POP in Seoul. There she explored ritual, femininity, and domesticity through performance art installations.
It was after the performance that she finally addressed her “social media backlash” in a sit-down with Interview Magazine. However, there was a catch. Instead of answering the questions directly, a “dark-haired woman muffled by a plastic Bianca-inspired mask is speaking for her,” turning it into an “unconventional interview.”
When Taylore Scarabelli asked the Australian fashion designer, “What is the significance of your doppelgangers? Do you ever feel trapped in your own image?”
The masked lady replied, “A woman in the public eye is forced to watch versions of herself multiply without her consent. People project, people invent, people erase. So she sculpts the versions they create, the phantom selves.”
The senior editor then asked the 30-year-old if she is “anticipating backlash” for her work. But her doppelganger revealed that “Bianca views social media neutrally, not as something she’s emotionally invested in, but as a space where perception mutates quickly and publicly.”
She further added that West’s wife “doesn’t seek praise or backlash, but she pays attention to how both form and circulate. They’re two sides of the same perceptual mechanism, and the contrast between them is useful.”
“Backlash isn’t a goal, but it is revealing. It shows where cultural sensitivities sit and what people are unable or unwilling to name directly,” Bianca 2 concluded.
