Canceled Boots Season 2 Can Happen on 1 Condition, Reveals EP

Fans of the groundbreaking queer military drama Boots were disheartened by Netflix’s recent cancellation of Season 2. However, hope for another season is not lost, according to executive producer Brent Miller, who details ambitious story plans and a potential path forward for the series.

Brent Miller details Boots Season 2 story plans, notes how the series can still continue

Miller believes Boots Season 2 can and should happen elsewhere. He channeled what late legendary producer Norman Lear’s own reaction would have been to the cancellation, quipping that Lear would have encouraged fans to advocate loudly for more. “He would empower myself, our fellow EPs, and Sony to do everything humanly possible for our actors, writers, and producers to try and find ourselves a new home,” Miller told Variety. “And of course, he would have encouraged the fans to make their voices be heard in the loudest ways possible to ensure a Season 2 – wherever, whenever,” he added.

The executive producer also revealed where the story was headed. According to him, creator Andy Parker had a clear vision for Boots Season 2. “Our creator, Andy Parker, had always intended to take the boys to war in a Season 2,” Miller said, hinting at a darker and more expansive next arc for the characters.

The series is based on Greg Cope White’s book The Pink Marine. The Boots features Miles Heizer as Cameron Cope, a closeted teen in the 1990s who joins the Marine Corps alongside his best friend Ray McAffey, played by Liam Oh. Set during a time when LGBTQ people were banned from serving openly in the military, the show followed the pair as they navigated the harsh realities of boot camp, forged deep bonds with fellow recruits, and began to understand themselves in an unwelcoming environment.

Now, even though Netflix did not choose to move forward, with Miller’s hope and his call for action to make Boots Season 2 happen, there’s still maybe a chance left.
