Geraldine Viswanathan to star alongside Amy Poehler on Peacock’s Dig
Geraldine Viswanathan has joined the cast of Dig, a new scripted comedy series in development at Peacock, which will be headlined by Amy Poehler. The project also reunites Poehler with Parks and Recreation co-creator Mike Schur (via Deadline).
Adapted from Kate Myers’ novel Excavation, Dig is set at an archaeological excavation site in Greece. The story follows four women employed at the dig, each navigating a different turning point in her personal and professional life. Their work takes an unexpected turn when a discovery of historical significance draws them into a dangerous international situation.
Viswanathan will play Dylan, a former member of the excavation team who returns after several years away. Her sudden decision to come back is related to unresolved issues from her past. Poehler stars as one of the archaeologists, while Hugh Laurie has also joined the cast in a key role. Laurie will portray Neville, a British academic deeply committed to archaeology and the preservation of its traditions. He acts as a mentor figure at the site.
The pilot episode was co-written by Schur and Poehler, with J.J. Philbin also contributing as a writer. Executive producers on the project include Schur, Poehler, Philbin, Morgan Sackett, director Dean Holland, Dave Becky, David Miner, Sharon Jackson, Kate Arend, and Jordan Grief. Myers is also attached as a co-executive producer. The series is produced by Universal Television and is currently moving toward production.
As of now, no premiere date has been announced for Dig. However, the series is expected to be a notable addition to Peacock’s original programming slate.
