Stephen A. Smith recently criticized President Donald Trump for his disrespectful comments on Rob Reiner and his wife’s passing. On December 14, they were found dead with multiple stab wounds at their Los Angeles home. Their son, Nick Reiner, has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Stephen A. Smith calls out Donald Trump
During a special edition of Straight Shooter, Smith criticized Trump for making “disrespectful” remarks about Reiner’s death and called them inappropriate for someone in his position. He said, “Rob Reiner and his wife, who are now deceased—the president choosing to comment on their passing in a disrespectful, acerbic, and disgusting manner is beneath the office of the presidency. It’s just that simple.”
He believes that the president taking the liberty to share such insensitive comments publicly could affect the GOP. He also condemned Trump’s remarks on Reiner and stated that there should be no place for such comments.
Further expressing his criticism, he added, “It’s stuff like this where all of that gets shoved aside because of the classlessness, the juvenile tendencies, the lack of statesmanship, the trifling-ass tendencies that he exercises and puts on display time and time again.” Smith referred to Trump as someone who doesn’t know his “limits,” saying he failed to consider that such comments should not be made during such a sensitive time.
He further added, “Their son has been arrested for murdering them. … And the president is blaming ‘Trump derangement syndrome.’ In other words, [he’s saying] they were so nasty toward him, that’s why it happened. This is the kind of stuff that’s gon’ get GOP folks out of office.”
Smith urged people to speak up about Trump’s actions and call them out as not “presidential.” He added that someone should remind him that his message is coming across “poorly” and that this is not how a president should speak.
