Ethan Hawke recently took a fun stroll down memory lane with Gwyneth Paltrow, recalling their famous 1998 kiss in Great Expectations. On Vanity Fair’s Reunited, he joked about Paltrow’s new on-screen fling with Timothée Chalamet, teasing whether she reused the iconic movie makeout spot.

Hawke and Paltrow dug into their Great Expectations days, recalling moments like dancing in a restaurant and that unforgettable kiss in the rain. Hawke admitted the water fountain kiss was his personal fave, joking, “We didn’t even win the MTV Movie Award!” Hawke continued, “How do we not win? That water fountain kissing scene is iconic.”
The pair also reminisced about their ’90s New York days. Hawke laughed, “There were no phones… You would just go to places hoping to meet people.” Paltrow added that they first made out during a game of truth or dare in her apartment on Prince Street ( via Vanity Fair).
Their chatter quickly turned to Paltrow’s new project, Marty Supreme, co-starring Timothée Chalamet. Talking about an on-screen kiss between Paltrow and Chalamet in Central Park, Hawke teasingly feigned selfishness. He asked if Paltrow kissed Chalamet in the same spot she kissed him. Paltrow responded with“No! Honey, never! I never would’ve desecrated our makeout spot like that.”
Paltrow also talked about the perks and pressures of being a “nepo baby,” sharing how Hawke’s daughter, Maya, is growing up learning valuable lessons from her parents’ work ethic and values. “I think the really underrated benefit of being a nepo baby, if you will, which I am in a certain respect, and that term is quite ugly.” Paltrow continued, “But at the same time, it’s like you’re learning these lessons from your parents, who are approaching a career with so much integrity and seriousness and such an incredible work ethic.”
