On December 14, Mahomes was brought down from behind by Chargers defensive end Da’Shawn Hand, further experiencing an injury in the knee. He clutched his left knee before the medical team came in for assistance.

Tom Brady recently appeared on SiriusXM’s Let’s Go! podcast, where he gave Patrick Mahomes a message following his ACL injury. He said, “The only thing you can do is focus on what’s ahead of you and not look back. And just say, OK, this is part of what my career is going to be. And a lot of people have gone through it, and a lot of people have overcome it. You’ve just got to put as much diligence into the rehab process.”
Brady further mentioned that rehab is the fastest way for one to get back to practicing the sport, while also emphasizing the importance of remaining determined throughout this process. He added, “And I always feel like the faster you rehab, the faster you can get back to practicing the sport that you know you love. I think sometimes people will pace themselves. Instead of training mode, they’re in rehab mode. I think you gotta get through rehab mode as fast as possible and then you get back to training mode.”
Providing his valuable advice, Tom Brady further stated, “But that requires an all-out commitment, and it’s the same commitment that the great professional athletes make to be great at their profession. When you go through the rehab process, you need that same level of focus and determination.”
On December 16, the Kansas City Chiefs took to X (formerly Twitter) to share an update on Mahomes’ injury, revealing that his surgery was successful and that he’ll begin rehab. The post read, “Patrick Mahomes successfully underwent surgery in Dallas this evening with Dr. Dan Cooper to repair the tear in his left ACL. Mahomes will begin his rehab process immediately.”
Meanwhile, the team lost to the Chargers 16–13, wiping out their chances of making the postseason and eliminating them from playoff contention.
