Original Harry Potter Star on if He Has Any Advice for New Show’s Actors

Timothy Spall, best known for bringing Peter Pettigrew, aka Wormtail, to life in the Harry Potter films, recently took a stroll down memory lane ahead of HBO’s upcoming reboot series. Talking at a Goodbye June screening in New York City, Spall recalled one of his favorite scenes from the franchise.

Timothy Spall reveals what his favorite scene is from Harry Potter movies

Spall, 68, opened up about one of his standout moments as Pettigrew in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) during Voldemort’s resurrection scene. “Peter is a weak character that wants to survive,” Spall told PEOPLE. However, his character (Pettigrew) “cooking Lord Voldemort in a pot of stew and carrying it around like a hot, vile little baby” was one of his favorite scenes from the movies.

He also expanded on Pettigrew’s twisted nature, pointing out that his “despicable evil” came from his “vulnerability.” Spall added, “That reaction comes out as a despicable evil, and to me is a very interesting thing. Actually, he’s quite indicative of quite a lot of evil in general… a lot of evil is often displacement activity or survival.”

When asked if he had any advice for the new cast, Spall humbly said he didn’t, saying, “Well, I don’t know. I’ve never given any advice to actors.” He explained that every actor needs to “make the part their own,” noting that the series offers “so much good writing, good characters, classic. You can do it [in] as many different ways as you like.”

The upcoming HBO Harry Potter reboot started production in July 2025 and is slated to arrive in 2027, spanning multiple seasons. The show features the likes of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Alastair Stout as Ron, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, Rory Wilmot as Neville, and Lox Pratt as Draco.

Spall’s character hasn’t been cast yet, but he predicts the show to be a huge success, given that it comes from a phenomenal franchise. “I cannot imagine it being anything other than a huge success because the franchise has been such a phenomenon,“ Spall said while speaking to Hindustan Times earlier.
