Sam Wilson Fans Aren’t Glad With 1st Avengers: Doomsday Trailer

Marvel Studios’ upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, is already facing backlash, even before its first official trailer release. A new report detailing how the film’s trailers will roll out has led to disappointment among Sam Wilson fans. They feel the current Captain America is being sidelined yet again in favor of legacy characters.

Rumors around the Avengers: Doomsday trailers have been circulating for weeks, with speculation suggesting Marvel would release multiple teasers to build momentum for the 2026 blockbuster. A recent scoop, however, reframed expectations by revealing that these clips will not function as traditional trailers. Instead, they will spotlight individual characters connected to the film.

On December 15, a known scooper, MyTimeToShineHello (MTTSH), claimed on X (formerly Twitter), “The four ‘trailers’ aren’t really trailers they’re four short scenes, each focusing on a different character.” Further, she claimed that Captain America Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) are expected to headline three of the four teasers.

Describing the first teaser focusing on Steve Rogers, she wrote, “The one with Steve was originally supposed to be the third, but it looks like it’s going to be the first now. It shows Steve riding home on a bike. He has a baby boy. There’s a tagline that reads ‘Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday,’ followed by ‘December 2026’ and then a countdown.”

Reacting to the description, Sam Wilson fans were left very unhappy. They expressed frustration over Marvel’s apparent decision to position Steve Rogers as a main character again. This is despite his definitive ending in Avengers: Endgame, and establishing Sam Wilson as the new Captain America.

One fan wrote, “It is VERY EASY to choose a lead for Avengers: Doomsday. Yet they chose to make it a character who got the PERFECT ending 6 years ago.”

Another added, “And when we said Marvel didn’t treat Sam Wilson as Captain America well, they told us we should wait and see and that we were overreacting.”

Several reactions focused on Anthony Mackie’s role as Sam Wilson and the lack of long-term narrative support for his Captain America. “Sam Wilson deserves so much better,” one post read.

Another reminded fans, “They gave Sam Wilson a mediocre Hulk sequel solo film and immediately brought back Steve to lead that’s so nasty.”

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to release in theaters on December 18, 2026.
