Ice Cube, who starred in the 1997 action-adventure horror flick Anaconda, recently opened up about his cameo appearance in the 2025 remake. In a new interview, he said that he was excited at the chance to cameo in the film after learning what kind of movie the filmmakers were making, which he found “different” and “cool.” In the original film, Ice Cube co-starred alongside several big names like Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Jon Voight, and Danny Trejo.
Ice Cube explains Anaconda remake return 28 years after original
While speaking to People about his surprise cameo in the Anaconda remake, Ice Cube said, “It’s cool to do a cameo, to kind of make it go full circle in a way.” He added that he “jumped” at the opportunity to cameo in the film when the filmmakers asked him to after learning about the type of movie they were making.
“I’m like, ‘This is something different. It’s cool,'” he further stated. “People probably get a kick out of me popping on the screen.”
This interview comes three months after Ice Cube shared his thoughts about the remake. While signing autographs and speaking to TMZ, he told the outlet that the remake was “gonna be funny.”
In a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paul Rudd, who stars in the new Anaconda film, expressed gratitude towards Ice Cube’s approval of their film. He likened it to “being blessed by the Pope.” adding, “You go over, you kiss the ring and he gives you a pat on the head and says, ‘Good job, son.'”
In the original film, Ice Cube’s Danny Rich is a cameraman who is part of a documentary filmmaking crew that arrives at the Amazon rainforest for a film shoot. This crew also includes Jennifer Lopez’s Terri Flores, the director, Owen Wilson’s Gary Dixon, a sound engineer, and Flores’ boyfriend, and Eric Stoltz’s Dr. Steven Cale, an anthropologist. The pair’s shoot becomes disastrous after manic snake hunter, Paul Serone, captures and forces them to help him in his quest to hunt down a giant green anaconda.
Rudd’s Anaconda will hit theaters on December 25, 2025. Tom Gormican directed the film from his and Kevin Etten’s screenplay. Besides Rudd, the film also stars Jack Black, Daniela Melchior, Thandiwe Newton, and Steve Zahn, among others.
