Donald Trump recently participated in the Army–Navy football game coin toss, a tradition long followed by sitting U.S. presidents. He was handed a coin by the referee to toss it in the air and determine the result.
However, the president opted for an unusual approach, placing the coin on his palm and tossing it upward without an apparent spin before it landed in favor of the Army Black Knights. The internet quickly reacted to Trump’s unconventional way of flipping the coin.
Donald Trump fumbles coin toss during Army-Navy game
Trump arrived at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium to do the Army-Navy pre-game toss and decide which team will start the game. In a video online, the referee asked Trump, “Mr. President, would you do the honor?”
He offered him the coin, which he took and placed in his hand. Without flicking the coin, he just threw it in the air and waited for the result. However, the coin didn’t appear to have spun and landed with tails. The Army Black Knights eventually won the toss.
The president’s unconventional way of tossing the coin has since garnered attention, with many sharing their thoughts on social media about the same. A user wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Trump with one of the worst coin tosses I’ve seen lmao.”
Another user mentioned, “Threw it up like he was attempting a lay up, i’m dead.” A third user wrote, “I know Trump bet on the coin toss because wtf was that.” One more user wrote, “Bro always knows how to make an impact.”
A few appreciated the coin toss, with one writing, “Iconic moment — rare, symbolic, and instantly meme-worthy. Whether you love him or not, that coin toss is one of those snapshots people will still be talking about years from now.” Another added, “Never has there been such a great toss, best in history they think.”
Besides the latest coin-flip moment, old comments of Trump around the Army-Navy game have also resurfaced. Back in 2016, Trump made a controversial remark, saying, “I just love the armed forces, love the folks. The spirit is so incredible. I mean, I don’t know if it’s necessarily the best football, but it’s very good. But boy do they have spirit” (via CBS News).
