Tate McRae is still wrapping her head around one of the most surreal moments of her career, learning that Taylor Swift, the world’s biggest pop star, had been blasting her music on repeat. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the 22-year-old Canadian singer recalled the moment she discovered Swift had publicly praised her viral hit “Tit For Tat,” describing the experience as something that felt almost written in the stars.

“It was so surreal. And it’s so funny — my mom is so witchy,” McRae said with a laugh. “She said the week before, ‘I feel like Taylor Swift is in your ether right now.’ I was like, ‘What? That’s so random.’ I’m such a massive fan, and I adore her. So when I pulled up my phone and saw that she had talked about it on Fallon, it was one of the coolest moments ever.” McRae said the moment felt especially meaningful because Swift has long been one of her creative guiding lights. “She’s been such an inspiration as a writer and as a woman in the industry,” she added. “So, it was really special.”
Swift’s support first surfaced in October during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. When asked what music she had on rotation, Swift didn’t hesitate. “‘Tit For Tat,’ I have it full volume, over and over again, on repeat,” she said, urging viewers to listen. Just days later, Swift reinforced her admiration in a promotional interview for The Life of a Showgirl, naming McRae among the three artists she was “constantly streaming.”
The recognition came during a peak stretch for McRae, who has spent the past two years on a rapid upward trajectory. Her 2023 breakthrough album “Think Later” delivered global hits like “Greedy” and “Exes.” In 2025, she achieved a new milestone when her follow-up album So Close to What debuted at No. 1, marking her first chart-topping project. The record produced fan-favorite tracks, including “Sports Car” and “Revolving Door,” and McRae followed the release with her largest tour yet, the Miss Possessive Tour, which sold out arenas across multiple continents.
