Sydney Sweeney Faces Major Blow Amid 2026 Nominations

The 2026 Golden Globes nominations are finally here, and Sydney Sweeney‘s Christy was entirely absent from the list. The 2025 boxing biographical drama failed to score a single nomination across all categories, marking a significant setback for the project.

Sydney Sweeney’s Christy gets no Golden Globes nomination

Christy premiered in theaters on November 7, 2025, and suffered a devastating box-office run. Despite the disappointing numbers, critics praised Sydney Sweeney’s convincing performance as former boxing star Christy Salters Martin. However, it ultimately wasn’t enough to secure a nomination in the 2026 Golden Globe Awards.

Following a lukewarm opening weekend, Christy’s box office numbers continued to plummet, down 91.7% from the first week. The dramatic fall broke the record for the biggest second-week drop of all time for a theatrical release. Additionally, Christy’s per-screen average fell from $600 in the debut week to just $132, mainly contributing to its disappointing reception.

However, amid polarizing reviews, many fans agreed that Sweeny’s shocking physical transformation in the movie was deserving of award-season nods. The actress has previously gushed about working on Christy, declaring that she is “deeply proud of this movie” in an Instagram post.

Several reports have speculated that the recent controversies surrounding Sweeney may have played a role in Christy’s disappointing box-office results. Earlier this year, the Anyone But You star came under fire for her American Eagle ad campaign with the tagline “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.” The ad faced backlash for its pun on “genes” being offensive and racist.

Meanwhile, this Golden Globes snub comes just ahead of the release of her new movie, The Housemaid. It is an upcoming psychological thriller based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 bestselling novel of the same name. The film stars Sweeney alongside Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, Michele Morrone, and Elizabeth Perkins. The Housemaid arrives in theaters on December 19, 2025.
