Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 Gets Exciting Release Date Rumor

An exciting rumor has emerged regarding Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 and its potential release date. According to an industry insider, filming for the threequel may begin in mid-2026. A third installment has not been officially confirmed as of writing. However, series star Matthew Lillard and Blumhouse founder Jason Blum have said that the chances of a third film happening will hinge on the success of the newly released second film.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 could begin filming in mid-2026

An industry rumor suggests that Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 will reportedly begin filming as soon as late summer 2026. This rumor comes from industry scooper Daniel Richtman, who reported that work on the third film has started. (via The Direct)

However, development on a third film has not been officially confirmed by Blumhouse. The production company has also not shared official information related to a potential release date.

The above rumor comes several months after Daniel RPK reported on his Patreon that the third film would start shooting by the end of 2025. Before this, an X (formerly Twitter) user, @Katsterlingfan, said in a now-deleted post, citing a source, that the third movie would start filming six months after Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’s release. The user also said that the producers planned to release the film in 2027. (via ComicBook)

Last year, Richtman reported that Blumhouse planned to make more Five Nights at Freddy’s films “beyond a trilogy.” (via The Direct)

Although a third film remains unconfirmed as of writing, Jason Blum and Matthew Lillard have teased its possibility. Speaking at the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 San Diego Comic-Con panel in July, the pair said that a third film will happen if the second one becomes a box office hit. Additionally, Lillard teased that his character, William Afton, would kill Josh Hutcherson‘s Mike Schmidt in the third film.

“If it’s a hit, they’re gonna make a third movie, and if they make a third movie, I get to kill Mike Schmidt… It’s going to be cinematic magic,” Lillard shared. Meanwhile, Blum said, “If enough people go… we’d be very excited to make a Five Nights at Freddy’s 3.” (via ScreenRant)
