Timothée Chalamet recently sparked a conversation in a rapid-fire interview when asked to name the greatest actors of all time. Rather than coy answers, Chalamet offered a ranking, giving credit to three of his personal favorites.

When the question about his top actors came up in a Lucid Motors‘ high-speed interview, Timothee Chalamet responded, “Denzel [Washington]’s the GOAT, Christian Bale’s the second GOAT, and Joaquin [Phoenix]’s the strange GOAT.” His lineup indicates who he looks up to. Denzel Washington, Christian Bale, and Joaquin Phoenix are all known for taking on demanding and varied roles.
Chalamet shared screen with Bale in the 2017 Western film Hostiles, which might have given him a firsthand view of the latter’s intensity and acting prowess. As for Washington and Phoenix, their long, genre-switching résumés have impressed fans over the years.
Further, the Dune star also shared a fun nugget about his friendship with Leonardo DiCaprio. He revealed that right before the interview, DiCaprio texted him, freaking out about Chalamet’s new shaved-head look. “I heard you shaved your head. Say it ain’t so,” DiCaprio texted. Their bond seems to have been reinforced after working together on Don’t Look Up, and it appears to include honest advice and genuine support.
Last year, Chalamet shared in a New York Times interview that DiCaprio once gave him advice about staying away from hard drugs and superhero movies. But the Marty Supreme actor admitted he’s not entirely anti-Cape–Cowl, and The Dark Knight inspired him to take up acting.
“‘No superhero movies, no hard drugs.’ Which I thought was very good. I follow them both! But the movie that made me want to act is a superhero movie, The Dark Knight. If the script was great, if the director was great, I’d have to consider it.”
