Quentin Tarantino on how Kill Bill’s The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge is coming to Fortnite
Quentin Tarantino has shared new details about the arrival of The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge in Fortnite. The animated short, which is eight minutes long, will also receive a limited theatrical release as part of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. It features Uma Thurman reprising her role as The Bride.
During a special launch event at the Vista Theater in Los Angeles, Tarantino explained how the collaboration began. “They got together with me to talk about some situation where my characters and Fortnite do something kind of groovy,” the director said. He explained that he initially assumed Epic Games was interested in licensing characters for the game. The filmmaker added, “They very innocently asked me, ‘Do you have something that’s, like, eight to 12 minutes long that could be good for our purposes?’” (via The Hollywood Reporter)
Tarantino responded with an early draft of Kill Bill, where an additional chapter involving Yuki Yubari, the twin sister of Gogo, had originally been written in before being ultimately removed. He said, “We couldn’t do it, it was just too crazy, it was just too much action. It never even made second drafts.”
He sent the chapter to Epic Games, which expressed interest in developing it in full. He noted, “And they were, like, ‘Let’s do this.’ And here we are.”
Tarantino noted that he aimed to ensure the collaboration would satisfy both Kill Bill fans and Fortnite players. He said, “I want both the ‘Kill Bill’ fan and the Fortnite fan to be totally effing happy about this collaboration.”
