The longtime friends detailed their four-hour conversation shortly after Swift got engaged to Travis Kelce, revealing how they stay connected despite Sheeran’s offline lifestyle.

Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift recently reconnected following Swift’s engagement to Travis Kelce. “I saw her a week after that happened … and you talk in person,” Sheeran told Access Hollywood on November 28, noting he had learned the engagement news via social media. Sheeran, who has been close friends with Swift since 2014, explained that he no longer owns a phone or iPad, saying, “I’ve actually got rid of the iPad as well, so I’m not on anything anymore.”
When they reunited, Sheeran said, “When I saw Taylor, we had a four-hour catch-up. It’s life stuff … I’m not self-conscious about my relationship with her. We’ve been friends for very, very many years [and] we’re super close.” He added that their dynamic doesn’t change over time: “When we see each other, we lock back into where we left off, and I love it.”
Swift shared her perspective during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, stating, “I have a perfect explanation … he doesn’t have a phone.” She explained that she forgot to tell Sheeran about the engagement because he wasn’t in her recent text history. “You have to email him. If you want to set up a FaceTime, he has to find an iPad. They have to give it to him like he’s a child that you give the iPad to.”
Swift expressed regret for not telling Sheeran directly, saying, “This is one of my absolute favorite people on the planet … We forgot to call Ed! Oh, no! He’s like family. I love him, but he doesn’t have a phone.” After the clip went viral, Sheeran responded in a TikTok comment, “Hello from allotted iPad time, this is factual.”
Sheeran uses a laptop for work, managed by his team. “I like opening a laptop, work, closing a laptop [and] going back to life,” he said.
