Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton Addresses Experiencing Fatherhood at 20

Charlie Heaton, of Stranger Things fame, recently discussed becoming a father at the age of 20, reflecting on how it required a lot of “sacrifices.” He said that it’s a “big thing,” noting that one has to “grow up very fast” to be successful at fatherhood at such a young age.

Ahead of Stranger Things Season 5 Vol 1 release, Charlie Heaton candidly spoke about welcoming his first child when he was just 20 years old.

“Being a young father, you have to grow up very fast,” Heaton told Wonderland Magazine. “You have to also learn ethical priorities, too, and you’ve got to look after somebody. That’s a big thing.”

The now 31-year-old actor said that the process involves a lot of “sacrifices.” He said, “You want to give them good experiences and a lot of love, and the hard part obviously is distance. But that’s part of the sacrifice.”

Charlie Heaton welcomed his son, Archie, whom he shares with his former Comanechi bandmate, Akiko Matsuura. He is currently dating his Stranger Things co-star, Natalia Dyer, who plays Nancy Wheeler. The pair reportedly started dating while filming the show’s first season, and later made a public appearance together in 2017.

Elsewhere in the interview, The New Mutants actor described working with Dyer as “precious.” He said, “It’s been a gift to work with my best friend. To be able to have a shared experience with your partner about the anxiety when you don’t get a job – I know what that feels like, she knows what that feels like.”

Heaton added, “You can be there to talk about it, or when you have a s**t day at work, or come away from a scene, and you didn’t think it worked. To be able to both understand each other on that level is great.”

Charlie Heaton reprises his role as Jonathan Byers in the final season of the series. Stranger Things Season 5 Vol 1 premiered on November 26 and is now available to stream on Netflix. Vol 2 will be released on Christmas, with the finale scheduled to air on New Year’s Eve.
